How to change the gullet in a Thorowgood saddle
All Thorowgood T4 and T8 saddles feature a quick change gullet bar system which enables you to alter the width of your saddle to best fit the profile of your horse’s withers. The type of gullet you will need depends on the style of saddle selected to fit your horse, R bar gullets are longer then the S bar gullets. The following sizes are available:
R-Bar Gullets (longer gullet bars):
- GREEN - narrow / medium (NM)
- BLACK - medium (M)
- BLUE - medium / wide (MW)
- RED - wide (W)
- ORANGE - wide / extra wide (W/XW)
- WHITE - extra wide (XW)
- YELLOW - extra wide / extra extra wide (XW/XXW)
S-Bar Gullets (shorter gullet bars) :
- GREEN - narrow / medium (NM)
- BLACK - medium (M)
- BLUE - medium / wide (MW)
- RED - wide (W)
- ORANGE - wide / extra wide (W/XW)
- WHITE - extra wide (XW)
- YELLOW - extra wide / extra extra wide (XW/XXW)
- SILVER - extra extra wide (XXW)

Changeable Gullet Bar
Quick change gullet bar system alters the width of your saddle to best fit the profile of your horse’s withers.
Step 1 - Use the allen key to remove the 2 screws, one at the front of each panel
Step 2 - Slide the panel off the point of the tree
Step 3 - Unscrew all four bolts in the gullet bar and remove the gullet bar
Step 4 - Insert different width of gullet bar with the alignment marker stamped on the gullet bar pointing towards the pommel. Insert all 4 bolts by hand and then secure firmly using allen key
